Privacy policy

PetPop is a virtual pet game made by STANDER Games ("we"). We collect as little as possible, never sell or share it for advertising, and explain everything here in plain language. This policy covers the game at playpetpop.com and this website.
The short version
- You can play without giving us any personal information. Your pet is then saved only on your device.
- If you create an account, we keep your email address, birth year and game progress.
- Players under 18 need a parent or guardian to approve their account first.
- The game counts anonymous events (like "a mini game was played") on our own server, with a random device number. No personal data.
- No ads, no third-party trackers, no chat, and no selling of your information.
- You can delete your account at any time from Settings in the game.
Playing without an account
Your pet, items and settings are stored in your browser's storage on your device. They are not sent to us. Clearing your browser's data or uninstalling deletes them. To move a pet without an account, the game can copy it as text that you paste on another device; that text stays with you.
If you create an account
We keep only what the account needs:
- Your email address: to send you a one-time sign-in code and to identify your account. There are no passwords.
- Your birth year: to know whether a parent or guardian needs to approve the account.
- Your game progress: your pets' names, stats, items, coins and similar game data, so your pet is the same on every device.
- A parent's or guardian's email address (players under 18 only): to ask for and record their approval.
We use this information only to run your account and the game. We do not use it for advertising, we do not build profiles, and we do not sell or rent it to anyone.
Anonymous game statistics
To learn what players enjoy and what to fix, the game counts simple events, such as "a pack was opened" or "a mini game was played", with a short label like the game's name. Each device gets a random number stored in the browser so we can count devices rather than taps. These counts contain no name, email, account, location or anything else personal.
- Events are collected in batches and sent only to our own server. No analytics company or third party receives them.
- Raw events are deleted after 90 days. After that we keep only daily totals (for example, how many rounds were played that day).
- Clearing your browser's data removes the random device number; a new one is made next time.
Children and parental approval
Anyone can play without an account. When a player whose birth year shows they may be under 18 creates an account, we email the parent or guardian they name. Until the parent approves, nothing about their game is stored online, and an unapproved account is deleted automatically after 30 days. A parent can decline, which deletes the account straight away, and can ask us to delete an approved account at any time.
Cookies and storage
When you're signed in, the game uses one essential cookie to keep you signed in. We use no advertising, analytics or tracking cookies, and no third-party scripts. The game also uses your browser's storage on your device to save your pet, your settings and the random device number used for the anonymous counts above.
Who else handles your information
Our website and accounts are hosted by our hosting provider in South Africa, which also delivers our emails. They process the information only to provide that service. Like every website, the hosting servers keep short-term technical logs (such as IP addresses and the time of requests) for security and reliability. We share nothing else with anyone, unless the law requires it.
How long we keep it
- Sign-in codes expire after 15 minutes and are removed within a day.
- Sign-in sessions last up to 180 days, or until you sign out.
- Accounts waiting for a parent's approval are deleted after 30 days.
- Raw anonymous game events are deleted after 90 days; only daily totals are kept.
- Your account and game progress are kept until you delete your account, or ask us to.
Keeping it safe
Everything is sent over encrypted connections. Sign-in codes and session keys are stored only in a scrambled (hashed) form, and repeated guessing is blocked. No system is perfect, but we work to protect your information and collect as little as possible in the first place.
Your rights
Under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), and similar laws elsewhere, you can ask to see the information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or object to how we use it. You can delete your account yourself in the game (Settings, Account, Delete account). For anything else, email us at [email protected] and we'll respond as soon as we can.
If you're unhappy with how we handled your request, you can complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa at inforegulator.org.za.
Changes
If we change how we handle information, we'll update this page and the date at the top. Important changes will also be shown in the game.
